Hollywood's Latest Home Tract

Rare separately published broadside, promoting a development in Hollywood called Hollywood Square.

The map shows a section of Hollywood bounded by today's Fountain Avenue in the south, De Longre Avenue in the north, La Brea Blvd (Plummer Street) in the west and Orange Avenue in the east.  The current location of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts is on the west side of the map, with the Jim Henson Company on the north side of De Longre Avenue.

This rare promotional real estate broadsheet for "Hollywood Square," promotes a residential development promising ample lots with a "Magnificent View" in the burgeoning district of Hollywood, Los Angeles.  The broadsheet hails from a pivotal moment in Los Angeles history, when the population of Greater Los Angeles was exploding and and Hollywood was transitioning from an agricultural community to an emblem of American cinema and upscale residential life. The advertisement's emphasis on the size of the lots, the promise of improvements, and the connectivity to car lines reflects the era's quintessential blend of optimism and modernization that fueled the American dream of home ownership.

Its text . Offering potential buyers terms of "One-fourth Cash," with the balance payable over 18 months, the broadsheet reflects the marketing strategies and financial arrangements of the time, tailored to appeal to the burgeoning middle class.
