Gio Francesco Castagnola was a Jesuit, notary, poet and historian from Lavagna, whose works include Discorso sopra lo cometa comparso nel decembre 1664 (1665) and L'arrivo in Vuoè dell'Armà de Franza, a poem describing the bombing of Genoa by the French Fleet in 1684.
