Mapping Manhattan's Theater and Entertainment District

Rare separately published map of Midtown, highlighting the theaters, hotels, and shopping locations between 26th Street and West 66th Street in Manhattan.  

The present example is updated to include the area north of 61st on the West Side, unlike earlier editions.  

Centered on Fifth Avenue and Broadway, the map includes color coding to locate the different types of buildings, including:

  • Night Clubs (pink)
  • Theaters (red)
  • Art Galleris (dark blue)
  • Museums, Libraries, and other major buildings (olive green)
  • Hotels (green)
  • Clubs (orange)
  • Shopping (yellow)
  • Churches (purple)
  • Office Buildings (light blue)
  • Public buildings (grey)
  • Hospitals (white)

Transit lines are also noted in a key in the title.

The map is scarce on the market and was periodically updated. 

We know of at least 3 states of the map.

Condition Description
Color folding map on 19th-century paper. Minor signs of wear on cover. Very minor toning.
