Description

Fascinating time line and infographic on the history of the Computer, published by Data Recording Products, a division of 3M.

As noted at the top left, the chart was designed to give a broad view of the development of the computer, along with the early developers and their relationships.  The primary time lines shows a history from 1937 to 1967 (with pre-cursor data for before 1937) organized in part by nations (Germany, United Kingdom and USA)

Arrayed around the sides of the chart are images and explanations for the earliest computing devices and computing pioneers, including:

  • Pascal's Calculating Machine (1642)
  • The Arithrometer (1820)
  • Charls Babbage (early "punch card" experimenter)
  • Hermann Hollerith (punch card inventor)
  • Differential Analyzer (1930)
  • Valve Computers (1949)
  • Transistorized Computers (1950s)
  • Integrated Circuit Computers (1960s)
  • Early Network Concepts (multiprogramming) (1960s
