Description

Rare bird's-eye view of Boston Harbor, providing a fine look at the many islands of Massachusetts Bay. This view was lithographed by George Walker and company in Boston in the earliest 1900s.

The map is a beautiful rendition of the area. To the far left of the map, Boston, South Boston, Charleston, and Chelsea are depicted with their many tall buildings. Further up the coast, one passes through Revere, Lynn Harbor, Marblehead, and Salem, with Gloucester visible in the furthest distance. Many islands are shown in the bay, and Nantasket Beach appears in the lower right.

The covers advertise Walker & Co's other maps, including street maps of Massachusetts towns.

This view belongs to a popular kind of bird's-eye view map that flourished from about 1900-1915.
