Description

Fine topographical bird's-eye view of the Greater Lake Tahoe Region, oriented with east at the top, based upon original artwork by Gerald A. Eddy.

The map extends from Donner Pass Summit at lower left corner, to Blue Mountain at lower right, from Reno to Walker Lake and notes that it was "Painted by Gerald A. Eddy, Glendale Calif." Topographical features such as mountains and lakes, many ski areas, etc. are named, such as Squaw Valley Ski Area, Tahoe City Ski Hill and Bijou Ski Hill Golf Course.

The map was utilized by the Lake Tahoe-Sierra Chamber of Commerce to illustrate a promotional pamphlet.

Gerald A. Eddy did several maps of the Lake Tahoe area, as well as other illustrations, although he is perhaps best known as the illustrator of several interesting historical maps of the Los Angeles area, including The old Spanish and Mexican ranchos of Los Angeles County.

 

Gerald Allen Eddy Biography

Gerald Allen Eddy moved from Michigan to Southern California in 1902. 

From the 1920s, he worked in the Los Angeles area as an artist and commercial cartographer.  

Eddy produced a number of pictorial and other maps of the western part of the United States.  His earliest work was "Pushing Hun out of Franc eand Belgium" (1918).  He produced several other war related maps during WWII, but is best known for his tourist and pictorial maps of California, Nevada and Arizona, including his "The Heart of Arizona" in 1926 and Boulder Dam map of 1931 and his iconic series of maps of Lake Tahoe.
