Description
Scarce Italian map of the Northwest, Canada and Alaska, published in Venice by Le Sage.
This map is one of the underappreciated gems of Northwestern cartography, with credits and notes regarding Lewis & Clarke, Franklin, Parry, Beechley, Astoria, MacKenzie, Maldonado and the Russian discoveries in the 18th and 19th Centuries.
A number of early treaty boundaries and 16th-18th Century exploration notes are also included, includingin Bareentz, Hudson and Phipps & Mulgrave.
The map presents an unusual visual / graphic style that is unlike any other map of the time.
