Isidor Ascheim was born in Margonin was raised in an Orthodox Jewish family and served during World War I.
He studied under the German Expressionist Otto Mueller in Breslau. One of his primary influences was Erich Hecke.
In 1940, he immigrated to Jerusalem and married the Israeli painter Margot Lange-Ascheim. He taught at the Bezalel School of Art, where he was the director for several years
