Description

California Water Resources Development, an attractive bird's-eye view of the state issued by the Irrigation Districts Association of California in 1958, provides a comprehensive account of the state's approach to water resources management, delineating important undertakings such as the California Aqueduct System and the Feather River Project. The view focuses on the strategies for the control, protection, conservation, and distribution of California's water resources.

In the 1950s, California faced increasing demands on its water resources due to urbanization, agricultural needs, and population growth. The disparities between its water-abundant northern regions and the drier southern areas made resource management an imperative. The California Water Plan, initiated in 1947, represents the state's efforts to anticipate and address these disparities.

Projects like the Feather River Project, with the Oroville Dam and the San Joaquin-Southern California Diversion Canal, exemplify the state's infrastructural attempts to ensure adequate water supply. The view's integral essays list several proposed reservoirs, from the Hamburg Reservoir in the northwest to the Castle Rock Reservoir in the Sacramento Valley, indicating a statewide focus on water security.

We are aware of a follow-up version of the view that was released in 1968. We have sold one example of that view. This is the first example of this view that we have encountered.
