Flying visit of Truth to Berlin

Rare satirical cartoon map of illustrating the British Royal Air Force propaganda raid on Berlin in September 1939, published by Rex Whistler.

The image shows a winged goddess Britannia, with a trident and shield, surrounded by cherubs dressed as aviators dropping leaflets over Berlin, with a grim image of Hilter,  Goebbels, Von Ribbentrop and Goering looking menacingly upwards toward the bombardment.

The image commenorates the four Whitley Bombers from RAF No. 10 Squadron which became the first British aircraft to fly over Berlin during wartime.

The llustrated Magazine centerfold includes an article on verso describing "What the R.A.F. sees over Berlin," accompanied by an aerial photo of Potsdamerplatz.

Appearing in December 1939, this fine graphic reflects Whistler's unique style.
