Published by The London Magazine in 1757, the map presents an unusual plan of Prague, showcasing the positions of the Prussian and Austrian armies during the Battle of Prague, a part of the Seven Years' War. The map is oriented with north facing left and features a key at the bottom margin, indicating the Prussian Army's artillery, reserves, batteries, and mortar positions.
The Battle of Prague was fought between the Prussians and the Austrians for control over Prague and its surroundings. Although Frederick the Great of Prussia succeeded in forcing the Austrians to retreat, he was unable to capture the city due to the heavy losses incurred. A beautifully designed title cartouche adorns the bottom right corner of the map, which was likely engraved by Thomas Kitchin.
