At the center, number three is the chocolate manufacturer and founder of his eponymous company Domingo Ghirardelli. On the lamppost on the right, number thirty-nine is the publisher and early promoter of aviation, Frederick Marriott. At number fifteen is the journalist, poet, and co-founder of the Bohemian Club, James F. Bowman.
Edward Jump was a French-born caricaturist who first arrived in California in 1851. A contemporary of Mark Twain, Jump became acquainted with him in San Francisco.
Rarity
Only two copies of this item have been located in institutions, one at the Bancroft Library and the other at the De Young Museum in San Francisco.
