Description

Scarce edition of Stanley Turner's Map of the World War Fronts.

A fascinating map featuring the theaters of World War Two, with notes of historical context and the major events of the war.

This is likely the fourth edition, published about six weeks before the fifth edition. In the Bering Sea, this edition notes, "Japs abandon Attu Oct. 8-42"; the fifth edition instead says, "U.S. Forces land on Attu May 11-43. Japs mopped up by June 10." It does not have "Dissolution of the Communist Third International (Comintern) May 15 43" between Surgut and Omsk nor the "Mass attack air war against Huns July 43" to right of Scotland for the Battle of Hamburg, beginning on 24 July. The most recent event is Pantelleria's capture by the allied forces on 11 June, 1943; the fifth edition has this same date as Pantelleria's surrender.

The formal term for the Allies, "United Nations," is used in the legend and on the map.

Numerous strategic roads, railroads, air, and sea routes are shown, including.

An inset world map shows the neutral countries in white, the Allies powers in light red, and the Axis powers in brown. Bolivia, which entered the war on the Allies' side on 7 April 1943, is in red, while Colombia, which officially declared war on Germany on 26 November 1943, is still in white.
