Description

A nice example of the first map of South Carolina printed in the United States. This is the first state of Lewis' map, issued in William Guthrie's New System of Modern Geography, published in 1795. The map provided a large format and highly detailed map of the state, showing towns, roads, rivers, mountains, swamps, counties, meeting houses, and substantial other detail. Highly detailed throughout. A striking dark impression. Wheat & Brun 601. Several minor repaired tears, but over all an excellent example.
