Description

Decorative and detailed map of the Margravate of Meissen, bordered by Lusatia, the Duchy of Saxony, the Episcopate of Halle (site of the former residence of the Archbishop of Magdeburg at Moritzburg Castle), Thuringia, Vogtland, and Bohemia. The area outlined covers from Gersdorf east to Ebersbach and from Bitterfeld south to Jachymov, Czech Republic (Thal). The coat of arms of Meissen sits atop the title cartouche.

The cities of Leipzig, Meissen, Dresden (with Altendresden), and Prague are shown.

At the time of the map's publishing, the Margravate of Meissen and Landgravate of Thuringia were part of the Electorate of Saxony, with Meissen in the Albertine lands.

Condition Description
Closed tear at bottom margin, reinforced on verso. Large, light stain in bottom right corner.
