Description
Fine early plan of Dresden was published in the supplement to the December 1759 issue of Universal Magazine, and accompanied an article on the city, with a focus on the treasures held within the Grünes Gewölb (Green Vault), a museum that holds the larges collection of treasures in Europe.
Six months after this plan appeared in Universal Magazine, the city was unsuccessfully besieged by a Prussian force led by Frederick the Great.
The plan shows the heavily fortified city, divided into the "Old Town" and the "New Town" by the Elbe River.
A compass rose orients north to the top left.
