Description

Rare large birdseye view of Paris from the top of the Arc de Triomphe, drawn and lithographed by Leon-Auguste Asselineau.

Centered on the Seine River and the  Île de la Cité, the map captures Paris from the Pont de la Concorde, Place de la Concorde and the Esplanade des Invalides in the foreground to the Jardin des Plantes, Pont de Bercy and on to the horizon.  At the far left is Monmarte, with the Jardin du Luxembourg at the center right.

Asselineau (1808-1889), a landscape painter and cousin of the writer Charles Asselineau, LAon-Auguste Asselineau created a number of lithographic views of cities.  Later in his career, he moved to Normandy, where he became a noted painter of Ocean Liners.
