Description

Handsome German-language lithograph of the Cape of Good Hope, after one by Sarony & Co. in J.W. Spalding's Japan and Around the World, showing sailing and steam ships against the background of Table Bay. The book was Spalding's journal kept during his time served on Commodore Perry's flagship, the USS Mississippi.

A small boat, loaded with supplies and barrels of water, makes its way from the harbor to replenish a ship.
