Description

Striking pictorial map of the San Fernando Valley and Great Los Angeles, focused on Burbank.

The focal point of the map seems to be air travel, as the map illustrates 4 airports in the valley, including:

  • Grand Central Airport (currently Disney Grand Central Creative Campus)
  • Lockheed Airport
  • United Airport (original name for Burbank Airport, used from 1930 to 1934)
  • Metropolitan Airport (Van Nuys Airport until 1942 -- site of the filming of Casablanca)

At the right, The First National Studio in Burbank is shown, which would become the official home of Warner Bros.–First National Pictures shortly.  First National Pictures built a movie lot in Burbank in 1926 and was acquired by Warner Bros. in 1928.  The companies functioned as distinct entities until 1936, according to the book, Early Warner Bros.
