Description

The Fishing Industry in the Northeastern Waters in 1935

Rare pictorial map of the North Atlantic, with emphasis on fisheries.

The map shows several important locations in the fishing industry in particular the Grand Banks of Newfoundland and off the coast of Nova Scotia.  An explanation of the depths at which different fish are located is given.

Scarcity of fish is referenced because of overfishing in the George's Bank is described, noting that the fishing center was relocated in 1931 to Western Banks.

Sable Island is labeled "The Graveyard of the Atlantic" because of an estimated 350 shipwrecks around the inlet.

Depths in fathoms are color coded.
