Description

Scarce early-20th-century map of San Diego, from northern Pacific Beach down to the Tijuana River and the border with Mexico.

Somewhat surprisingly, given the scale, the map renders block-level detail quite well, with much of the city still divided by its original additions, many of which are named.

Railroads such as the Los Angeles & San Diego Beach R.R. and Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Ry. are named. The former was created in 1906, giving an early bound to the publication of the map.

Balboa Park is named "City Park 1400 Acres" and includes "Russ School" and the "Orphans' Home Tract". This indicates that the map was made prior to 1908 or 1909, as the Russ School was replaced by San Diego High School in 1907.
