Fantastic large poster map of the world, issued as map 6 in the Nav War Map series.
The map shows the theaters of the Second World War during its closing stages. The map was issued by the U.S. Navy to promote an appreciation for the role it played in the war effort. This map places particular emphasis on the Lend-Lease Program and the role of seapower in the global supply chain.
Two insets show air distances around the world from the United States.
Interestingly, the inset on the Lend-Lease Program also emphasizes the so-called Reverse Lend-Lease whereby 90% of the food for American forces in the southwest Pacific came from Australia (as an example).
The so-called "NavWarMap" series was published by the Educational Service Section, Bureau of Naval Personnel, Navy Department, Washington, D.C. The Nav War Maps are some of the pictorial maps to have come out of World War II.
The NavWar series included the following maps:
- The Mediterranean
- The South China Sea Area
- World War II in the North Sea Area
- The North Pacific Area
- Southwest Pacific
- We Fight a Global War
