Description

Geological map of part of Kurram District and tribal territory in the North-West Frontier in present-day Pakistan, from Sir Sidney Burrard's 1905 survey of India and corrected in 1918.

The North-West Frontier was formed in 1901, from west of the Indus River in Punjab Province and north to the Durand Line, which established a border in 1893 between Afghanistan and British India. Shown east of the Kurram River are the Alisherzai, Manatu, Watizai, Mamuzai tribal districts and to its west, the Kuchi and Balyamin, all Pashtun tribes. The Durand Line, a still hotly-contested border, mostly followed physical features, and bisected Pashtun lands.
