Fantastic folio map of western Scotland, showing one of the most interesting parts of the highlands including Lochaber, the Inner and Outer Hebrides. This map was published by Valk and Schenk in Amsterdam at the end of the 17th century.

Many islands, lochs, and other marvelous features are shown in this part of Scotland where moor meets water in rugged ways. The islands shown are Skye, Rum, Coll, Mull, Iona, Jura, Harris, Uist, and Barra. Three sailing ships and two decorative cartouches appear.

The detail is fantastic inland. "Loch Loch" is named, which today is known as Loch Lochy north of Fort William. Bin Novelli is the Latinization of Ben Nevis. Mountains, forests, rivers, lochs, glens, and more appear throughout the map.

This map represents a later state of a map of the same name first published by Jan Jansson sometime around 1646. Jansson published a series of maps of the British regions, which were based on the most accurate sources at the time.
