A Sea Chart Prepared For French Naval Officers During the American Revolution

Rare French edition of Sayer & Bennett's chart of the area around New York Harbor and Long Island, originally issued in the North American Pilot.

The Chart is centered on Staten Island, York's Bay and Constable Point, extending north to Hells Gate, New York Island, Newtown Inlet, Bushwick Inlet, Wallabout Bay, Crown Point, the Battery and Ship Yards and south to the Shrewsbury River. The chart also extends East to include Amboy and the Raritan River, noting (Samuel?) Holland's House and east to Jamaica Bay and Plumb Island.

The Le Rouge edition was issued by the French at the commencement of the American Revolution, as part of an atlas prepared for the French Military for use in aid of the American Colonists. The maps were included in Le Rouge's rare North American Pilot, an atlas of Sea Charts compiled by the French Government and utilized by the French Navy during their participation in aid of the Americans during the American Revolutionary War.
