Description
Decorative view of Alexandria as seen from the west, published in 1700. The copperplate engraving shows a mosque, Alexandria's then-noted column, harbor defenses, and large ships at sea.
The text at the bottom provides a cursory overview of the history, politics, and religion of the city.
This view was published by Pierre Aveline, one of the foremost viewmakers of the first part of the 18th century.
Condition Description
Small inclusion in the image in the upper right quadrant (probably the hair(?) of the printer(?), which was removed after it went through the press).
