If an order is received after that time, we will ship the next day. We ship maps either flat in custom packages or in specially ordered thick tubes. Description

Vintage pictorial map of the so-called "Norfolk Resort Area" covering Norfolk, Portsmouth, Hampton Roads, the James River, Newport News, the York River, Chesapeake Bay, Virginia Beach, and Williamsburg.

The map was issued by the Resort Department of the Norfolk Chamber of Commerce and was illustrated by Day Lowry.

There are numerous insets of important historical events and noteworthy features of the region such as shipbuilding and the areas municipal gardens.

Williamsburg's "Restored Colonial Capital" is mentioned.

Folding map. Some minor wear at the two vertical folds.

Decorative example of this sought after map of the Chesapeake, from the first French edition of Mallet's atlas. The map is based upon Augustine Hermann's map of 1673 and later maps of the region. Extends from the Saquesahanoug R in the North to Pomejok and C. de Trafalgar in the South, and inland along the Powhatan R and Toppoahonoc R. Jamestown is located, as is Smythe's Island? A nice example, from the first edition of Mallet's work.
