Previously unkown second state of Giacomo Franco's map of the world, first publish in about 1586 in Venice.

Based upon the earlier maps of Oronce Finè and Giovanni Paolo Cimerlino, the map is newly embellished with portraits of Oronce Finè, Strabo, Pomponius Mela and Claudius Ptolemy.

The second state was printed after the printing plate sustained damage, which can be seen to the west of Madagascar, including a blank area and loss of the letters OCEAN in OCEANUS INDICUS.
