Description

Rare separately issued broadside battle plan, showing the Siege of Monheurt in 1621, a part of Siege of Montauban by the French Royal Army under Louis XIII against the Protestant Huguenots in 1621, during the Huguenot Revolt.

During the March to Bordeaux, as the royal army was moving down the Garonne Valley towards Bordeaux , the Constable Charles d'Albert , Duke of Luynes, learned that the castle Monheurt on the Garonne River, a Protestant stronghold near Tonneins, had rebelled. The King's army, under the command of François de Bassompierre, besieged and burned the town on December 11, 1621.

The broadside provides a detailed account of the siege, locating the fortifications, batteries, and positions of the various attacking forces, including

  • Quartier du Roy
  • Quartier du Suisses
  • Trenches of the Garde du Roy
  • Regiment de Normandie
  • Regiment de Navarre
  • Grignon
  • Grignault
  • Riberac
  • The attack from boats on the River.
