Fascinating Klondike Gold Fields broadside, published by Sears, Roebuck & Co., Chicago.

The broadside goes on to advertise that the lecture will be illustrated throughout with 50 Magnificent Views Projected from the Magic Lantern, including a map of Alaska, important coast towns, Dawson City, the Yukon River, the steamboats, the Indians, the miners, sluice and hydraulic mining, gold mills, a dog train with sleds, etc.

The view includes an illustration of a man panning for gold. The poster also advertises a high-class Musical Program that will accompany the lecture and features a depiction of people enjoying themselves while listening to a Talking Machine...one of the Most Wonderful Inventions; copyrighted 1898, published by Sears, Roebuck & Co., Chicago.

Condition Description
Three inch tear affecting the K & A in the word Alaska in the upper top half of the map. No loss of image.

This is an interesting map of America and parts of Europe and Asia, based upon a possible voyage by the Captain Cluny. This figure was a legendary sea captain of the Hudson Bay Company, who was thought to have reached as far as 82.5° N during an early voyage in the 1740s. Two marks on the map show the passage of Cluny's ships in the North Atlantic, indicating a shipwreck near Spitsbergen and a stretch of ice-free ocean they discovered far to the north of the archipelago. Text on the map suggests that this work was based on a map in the American Traveller, a tale of sea voyages supposedly by Cluny himself.
