Description

Scarce whimsical map of Oahu, drawn by F. Gordon Chadwick and printed by the Honolulu Star Bulletin.

Chadwick's map is in the style of Jo Mora and Ruth Taylor White, who also published maps through the Honolulu Star-Bulletin at this time, Chadwick's map is distinguished by the military insignias that form the border, including regiments based in Hawaii.

Many of the pictographs feature army related activities and comments, making apparent the marketing towards the large military population on the island. "This Cartograph of Oahu T. H. is a birdseye view of "The Rock" Pictorially presented in authentic fashion are its main Historical Events & their effect on this Paradise. If the scale of miles seem slightly irregular & you find other discrepancies, Remember that the "Spirit of the Island" is to be blamed, not the Cartographer."
