Description

An excellent map of the United States and Mexico immediately after the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. In addition to the odd shaped Texas and New Mexico, the maps most interesting geo-political features are the marvelous large demarcated Indian Districts, including Mandan (Nebraska), Osage (Kansas), Ozark (Oklahoma) and Sioux (Minnesota). In addition, Wisconsin is referred to as Huron. The map is rich with Indian Names, forts, trading posts, early settlements, and various myths and legendary cartographic features, including a late example of the river from San Francisco to Salt Lake and the mythical second Salt Lake. The treatment of the Rockies is spectacular. Archivally backed. A gorgeous example.
