Description

Interesting map depicting the boundary established in 1842 by the Webster Ashburton Treaty, which finally set forth the boundary between Canada and the United States, as it pertains to the region east of Lake Champlain.

There appear to be 3 different examples of the map, each with subtle differences. The most common is by John Wyld, an was issued with Observations upon the Treaty of Washington" by George William Featherstonaugh. Published in London by John W. Parker. A second example of the map accompanies the official report. By far the rarest of the editions is this edition by Harrison & Co, Charing Cross. What makes this example unique and readily distinguishable from the other editions is that it includes only one boundary key (in red), whereas the others include three boundary keys. It is probable that this example, issued unfolded, was the earliest of the three and possibly a proof state.
