Description

Rare large format portrait of John C. Fremont, by the famed New York and Paris printmaker, Goupil.

Large format rendering of one of the better-known portraits of the famed Pathfinder. The print includes the legends "After Root's Photograph. Lith. by S.W. Rowse: and "Print of A. Weingartner's Lithy. N.Y."

There is an example in the National Portrait Gallery, but we have been unable to trace any other examples.

Condition Description
Some toning and mat-burn, circular spot in upper right corrner well away from image, else very good.

Unique example of the original manuscript plan for the Gregson Townsite in Butte, Montana, as executed by the owners and surveyor Malcolm L. MacDonald in November and December of 1893. The plan would, in turn, be approved by the County Commissioners on January 3, 1894. Unlike the recorded example, the present plan extends further south, showing the major landmark in the area, the Upper Deer Creek Lodge Hot Springs Resort, one of Montana's oldest resorts.
