Description

Rare separately issued map of the area around Dublin, with a second inset map of the City of Dublin, accompanied by an elaborate table of of carriage fairs, distances within the area, and a currency exchange table for British to Irish and Irish to British currencies, along with views of the Post Office and Bank of Dublin. The map was an advertising promotional map ofr C.Carmody, C.E., a Surveyor and Valuator in Dublin at 18 Bolton St. Carmody also officed at 49 Capel Street, according to records in the National Archives. The map was engraved by Arthur Marlow, Lithographer, Engraver and General Printer, 29 Capel Street, Dublin. The map is generally in good condition, with a few minor pin holes in the image, some minor soiling and toning, and one tera in the lower margin. A wooden rod is affixed to the upper verso at the top and there is evidence of it having previously laid down as a wall map, including what appears to be an orange adhesive material spread on the back. In all, the item is quite presentable for such a rare and ephemeral separately issued map. We could locate no records of any other examples of the map or any examples of other work by Marlow. Dublin imprints are very scarce.
