Illustrating The World's First Vertical Loop Roller Coaster

Early pictorial map of the Magic Mountain theme park in the mid-1980s, which at the time was Southern California's premier thrill ride venue.

Magic Mountain, which later became known as Six Flags Magic Mountain, has a rich history. The theme park opened on May 29, 1971, in Valencia, California. Originally, it was independently owned and operated under the name Magic Mountain.

In 1979, the park was purchased by Six Flags, marking a new era in its history. The acquisition led to the park's rebranding, and it was renamed Six Flags Magic Mountain in 1980. This transition marked the beginning of significant expansions and additions, transforming the park into a destination with a growing reputation for thrilling rides and roller coasters.

In 1984, Six Flags Magic Mountain had several notable roller coasters. One of the major ones was Colossus, a wooden coaster known for its dual tracks, which opened in 1978. The Revolution, which opened in 1976, was notable for being the world's first roller coaster to feature a modern vertical loop.

The Sarajevo Bobsleds opened in 1984, inspired by the Winter Olympics held in Sarajevo that year.
