Description

Aeronautical map of the area around Hungtze (Hongze) Lake, from Tsingtao (Qingdao) to the Yangtze River, including the cities of Yichow (Linyi), Tsining (Jining), Suchow (Xuzhou), Nanking (Nanjing). When this map was issued, this area was occupied by Japan.

Thick black dashed lines (in long-short-short or — -- dashes) mark provincial boundaries between Anhui, Jiangsu, Henan, and Shandong.

AtoNs (Aids to Navigation such as lighthouses, buoys, and beacons) have their lighting abbreviation— flashing (Fl.) and group flashing (Gp. Fl.).

Printed at the Survey of India Offices (H.L.O.) Probably produced in India in relation to Allied bombing campaigns against occupied China.

Condition Description
Moderate foxing and wear along folds, including pinhole at central crossfold. Pen titling "Coast — Tsingtao to Yangtze" in bottom margin.

Engraved for d'Anville's Nouvel Atlas de la Chine, de la Tartarie Chinoise et du Thibet, depicting Qing Dynasty China, this map shows the area from the Selingue Pira (Selenga River) east to the route from Beijing (Peking) to Niptchou (Nerchinsk), encompassing the Left Flank Khalkha Mongol khanates. The site of the Battle of Jao Modo is shown along the Toula (Tuul) river ("Défaite du Caldan par l'Armee de Canghi"), 37 miles east of present-day Ulaanbaatar. The routes of major military campaigns in the area are shown, including that of Alaqush Tegin Quri (here, Tagin), traveling along the Kerlon (Kherlen River) towards the Orgon (Orkhon) River
