Description

Topographic map of Lanai by the U.S. Geological Survey in 1:62,500 scale. This is the 1963 reissue of the 1923 survey map of the island; it was reissued again in 1973. Lanai was not covered by the 1:24,000 scale quadrangle series until 1984.

Topographic features, as well as cities, towns, community buildings, roads, trails, and the boundaries of the 13 ahupua'a (historic land districts), are included.

The first issue of the survey was published the year after James Dole bought most of the island, growing it into the world's largest pineapple plantation. Lanai City and Kaumalapau Harbor to its southwest were both developed by Dole. Kōʻele and Keōmoku, hubs of the earlier-established ranching and sugar industries, respectively, also appear as settlements.
