Post-War Aerial Photographs of San Fernando Valley

A nice group of detailed post-WWII aerial photographs of the San Fernando Valley and environs. These views reflect the explosive growth of the region in the immediate post-war era. The views date from circa 1949 - one of the photographs is dated "10-19-49" in the negative. The prints are stamped on verso: "MacPherson Aerial Survey Burbank." The views are quite expansive, encompassing large swaths of land blanketed with houses and commercial buildings, with mountain ranges in the far distance. Van Nuys City hall is clearly visible in one of the views. The view of Chatsworth shows a largely undeveloped area.

One of the images is credited to "Paul E. Wolfe" in the margin. Wolfe was active as a commercial photographer in Burbank from the late 1940s into the 1960s.

A note on one of the photographs refers to Bill Cal Real Estate.

Pencil notes on verso of the images indicate some of the locations depicted:

  • Northeast End of Valley San Fernando
  • Van Nuys looking east
  • Van Nuys looking west
  • Burbank
  • Chatsworth.

Historically valuable visual documentation of the San Fernando Valley in 1949.
