Description
Beautifully hand-done and hand-painted map of the Spanish coast, in the vicinity of Cartagena, from the late 18th century.
The highly decorative map includes three depictions of naval vessels, a compass rose, and numerous depth soundings, speaking to this chart's use as an instrument of navigation.
The map is attractively executed in the classic French style, characterized by the teal-blue wash color and the red and yellow compass rose. The manuscript text on the verso describes the coast around Cartagena.
