Photograph of a Pima or Apache Child
An evocative and sensitive CDV photograph portrait of a young Pima or Apache child.
Buehman & Hartwell, Tucson, Arizona Territory Photographers
Henry H. Buehman arrived in Arizona Territory circa 1874, working mainly in Tucson until about 1907. He was a prolific photographer of early Arizona scenes, producing various image series, such "Arizona Scenes", "Scenes in Arizona", "Views in Arizona", "Arizona Scenery" and the like. His most sensitive and beautiful images are his portraits of Native Americans in Arzona Territory. Sometime in the 1880s he went into a business partnership with Francis A. Hartwell.
Another version of the present image, showing the same Native American child, but in a full-standing pose, was issued on a mount signed by Buehman & Hartwell, photographers in Tuscon, Arizona Territory. Our CDV bears no photographer's name or mark, but can be attributed to Buehman & Hartwell.
