Description

Scarce full color example of Visscher's scarce map of the Greek Islands, the Aegean, Crete and part of Asia Minor.

Nicolas Visscher II's map of Greece from circa 1680 is a beautiful and intricately detailed work of cartography. The map portrays the geography of Greece with great accuracy, including the numerous islands and the mountainous terrain of the mainland.

One particularly noteworthy element of the map is the decorative allegorical title cartouche. Located in the lower left-hand corner of the map, this cartouche depicts characters from Greek mythology.
