The present example is state 4 (of 4) and the only one printed from the 3rd plate. The view differs from the first three states in many details and can be identified, among others, after two coats of arms in the upper right corner.
The view shows the St. Peter's Church, built in the 13th century, is known for its tall spire and ornate exterior. It may have been depicted in the view as a prominent landmark in the city. Another building that may have been included in the view is the Temple Cathedral, which is a medieval cathedral located in the Old Town. The cathedral, which was built in the 13th century, is known for its Gothic architecture and is one of the oldest and most important religious buildings in Latvia. The Riga Castle, located on the banks of the Daugava River is shown. The castle, which was built in the 13th century, has undergone numerous renovations and expansions over the years.
No information is known about J. F. Saur, who can only be connected to a few drafts for engravings of views and ornaments.
