Description

The classic pictorial map is a representation of the United States that humorously portrays the perceived biases and prejudices of Bostonians. It shows a version of the United States where the New England and Boston metropolitan area are heavily favored and depicted with greater detail and accuracy than regions lying outside.

The map becomes increasingly less detailed and more inaccurate as it progresses westward, with a note reading, "The Western cities are reputed to be modern appearing and progressive."

On the Southeast coast, there is a note that references Indian legends and suggests that white adventurers explored these shores before the beginning of American history, a tongue-in-cheek reference to the Bostonian's belief that American history began in Massachusetts in 1620.

The map was produced by Wainwright Publishing of Boston.

This is a scarcer version of the "New Yorker's View of the United States" most often encountered.

There are several versions of this map.
