Description
Very rare original antique map of the Holy Land, published in Italy in the 18th century.
We note examples a Stanford and at the National Library of Israel, both without dating or maker information.
In December, 2022, we were provided with the following assistance from Howard Golden:
- The map was originally issued in Volume 3 of Storia del Popolo die Dio Dalla Sua Origine Sino Alla Morte Del Messia, by Isaac Joseph Berruyer, published in Venice in 1741. The first printing of the map included an engraved signature of "Joseph A??? Sculp 1746 in the lower left corner," with most of the last name illegible.
- The present example is state, published in 1763, with the engraver's name erased.
