Description

One of the Great Texas Pictorial Map Rarities.

Fantastic and very rare pictorial map of El Paso, published during the Golden Age of American Pictorial Cartography.

The map shows El Paso from across the Rio Grande, and also shows the city of Ciudad Juarez, in Mexico. Buildings of importance, industrial areas, and the nearby countryside are all shown. A history of the region is given at the top of the map. Major monuments are shown at the bottom.

The border is a major focus of this map. On it, we see American motorists to El Paso disposing of prohibition-era alcohol before being investigated by the border guards. Lawmen chase criminals across the Rio Grande, while migrants traverse in the opposite direction.

Rarity

We have been able to trace two institutional examples of the map, in the David Rumsey Collection and the Houston Public Library.
