Description

The Nazi Gulag Archipelago.

Terrifying French-language map published just after the end of the Second World War showing the network of German death and interment camps established across Europe between Alsace-Lorraine and the General Gouvernement.

The map is based on data collected from the "Ministry of the Deported." It claims to show only a quarter of the camps constructed, focusing only on the major ones but still showing hundreds of localities. The male camps are shown in green, while the female camps are shown in red. The worst camps are underlined or boxed, with the Auschwitz complex denoted in a large circle. A note next to Auschwitz states "5 million massacred." Other statistics and notes abound - Buchenwald is noted as a triage and staging camp, with an airplane factory.
