Large six-sheet (eight with text) Soviet wall map of the mineralogical and fossil fuel resources of the world, published in 1972.

The key at the lower left gives an idea of the map's purpose; it lists different kinds of metals (precious metals - gold, silver, platinum; radioactive metals - uranium, thorium, radium; etc.); it also lists oil and natural gas deposits. All deposits are classed a long a scale of size: Unique; Large; Medium; Small.

The map was published in a relatively small run for Soviet printing of the time (only 3000 were printed). The map was approved for publication by the Scientific and Editorial Council of VSEGEI on January 26, 1971. It was printed at the Leningrad Map Factory. The price was 1 ruble and 76 kopeks.

The issuing body for the map was the Ministry of Geology of the USSR, All-Union Order of Lenin Scientific Research Geological Institute (VSEGEI).

The map's designers were V.A. Kalinin, geologist; M.B. Leikin, technical editor; and L.G. Dolgonos.


The map is rare on the market in the West, but well represented in institutional collections, according to OCLC.
