Nice example of this scarce American Atlas, first published in 1822.
This is the first edition to include US State maps. The prior edition included only 22 maps.
Includes the one of the first double page coast to coast maps of the United States to appear in a commercial atlas, along with the map of Fielding Lucas Jr.
Each map includes an index of place names opposite the map, another early innovation.
The 1820s was a golden age for American Cartography, with a number of atlases published by Carey & Lea, Anthony Finley, Fielding Lucas, Sidney Morse and others.
Condition Description
Small folio. 30 maps, plus title page. Maps in original color. Usual minor foxing, minor dampstaining, etc. Original half red morocco, marbled paper boards, printed paper label on the front cover (worn).
