Description
Signed by Walt Whitman.
Signed 1876 editions in matching Zaehnsdorf levant morocco of Author's Edition of Leaves of Grass, signed in ink on the title by Whitman, and the first (and only) edition, second printing, of Whitman's Two Rivulets, with original albumen portrait frontispiece of Whitman signed "Walt Whitman / born May 31 1819".
The different printings of the 1876 Leaves of Grass vary slightly; Whitman commissioned 600 copies of this revised edition, which incorporates four brief poems previously interspersed in earlier editions directly into the text and lists them in the table of contents.
Two Rivulets was written by Whitman in an effort to contribute to the nation's centennial.
Condition Description
Two volumes. Octavo. Early-20th-century full green levant morocco by Zaehnsdorf for A.C. McClung & Co.; spine in six compartments separated by raised bands; gilt dentelles; TEG (hinges mended with matching green morocco). Housed in modern ¼ green morocco clamshell box.
